PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) Happy Hour Networking Event
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP 805 SW Broadway #800 Portland, OR 97205

Please RSVP on Eventbrite

Join us for happy hour at PricewaterhouseCoopers on June 27th.

With summer upon us, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the end of the school year. We’ve all been students and many of us are parents, so we know how important education is and wanted to build our June event theme around it. The conversation starter this month is “If you were a high school student today, which class would you want to take?”

While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community.

• Introduction to PwC, including what they do and what job opportunities are available.

• Allie Foote, Advisory Manager at PwC, will discuss her dedication to continued education and ways to balance school and work.

• Marie Xun Wang, Postdoctoral Researcher at OHSU, will give us pointers on transitioning out of school into the professional world.

• Esbeida Ramos and Nikki Whitton, both STEM Event Coordinators at nConnect NW, will talk about preparing the future workforce.

During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:

• An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.

• Table Topics to help break-the-ice.

• A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected.

Women + Tech Third Annual Summer Soirée
Cambia Health Solutions 1621 SW First Avenue Portland, OR 97201

Please RSVP on Eventbrite

Join us for our third annual summer soiree in partnership with Women Who Code, Lesbians Who Tech, ChickTech, PyLadies PDX, Girls Inc. hosted by Cambia!

Portland often prides itself on being inclusive, and the tech scene is no exception. We think of ourselves as being the welcoming tech city and congratulate ourselves for our diversity pledges. We read stories and articles on our feeds depicting the inequities — and sometimes monstrosities — our neighbors to the south, in Silicon Valley, face. We feel thankful those thingsdon’t happen here. Unfortunately, those things do happen here, often in the shadows, but those involved don’t know whom to tell or where to go.

At this year’s summer soiree, our theme is dedicated to openly discussing how we can change the Portland tech culture to be more inclusive, moving away from the bro-culture, and discussing how this community and our allies can work together to make the Portland tech scene a more welcoming place for all. Our conversation starter is “Which label are you sick of hearing in Tech? (e.g. bro-grammer, lady-boss, man-splainer, etc...).”

Event Agenda:

5:30pm - Doors open

6:15pm - Introductions

6:30pm - Panel begins

7:30pm - Networking

The summer soiree is a mixture of networking and speaking segments, and we will be joined by a diverse group of panelists who will share their stories and insights, leaving us with ideas and next steps to strive for the change we desire:

• Moderator: Terra Soma, Senior Organizational Development and Change Consultant at Legacy Health

• Lori DeLone, CIO Health Plans at Cambia

• Ryan Carson, CEO Treehouse

• Deena Pierott, Founder iUrbanTeen and Black Women in Tech Advisory Board member

• Katharine Nester, Chief Product and Technology Office Ruby Receptionists

During the event, we’ll have an Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.

PDX Women in Tech (PDXWIT) Happy Hour Networking Event
Free Geek

Registration through Eventbrite is required to avoid having to manually check-in at the event

We are celebrating Giving Tuesday by joining forces with Free Geek for our Happy Hour on November 28th.

PDXWIT exists as a way to encourage, support and empower women in the Portland tech community. One way to feel empowered is to lift each other at work, and because we feel this is so important, we’ve made it the theme of this event. The conversation starter is “What's something new you can do to empower your coworkers and colleagues?”

In the spirit of giving, we will be offering a number of ways to give back to your community:

• Donate your used electronics to support Free Geek • P:ear is organizing a “Women Supporting the Women” bra and underwear drive! For young, homeless women, it is hard to find support for their diverse and changing bodies. Let’s give them the support they need! Bring in gift certificates to Ross or other easy-to-access clothing stores for custom purchases, or raid your wardrobe for new or very lightly used bras. All sizes are needed. Practical styles encouraged, including sports and maternity. New underwear also encouraged. • Sign up to be an individual or sustaining supporter for PDXWIT and get a green shirt!

While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 to share important announcements and showcase three women in our community. ᛫ Introduction to Free Geek, including what they do and what job opportunities are available. ᛫ Pippa Arend, Development Director at p:ear, will talk about Ladies Supporting the Ladies. ᛫ Commissioner Smith will talk about how Multnomah County is giving women and people of color access to startup funds.

During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:

If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director. ᛫ Table Topics to help break the ice. ᛫ A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected.
